Built as a double track railroad bridge, it was completed on January 1, 1889, and formed part of the Maybrook Railroad Line of the New Haven Railroad. It was taken out of service on May 8, 1974, after it was damaged by fire. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, and its entry updated in 2008. The bridge was designated as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark by the American Society of Civil Engineers in 2009. It was reopened on October 3, 2009, as a pedestrian walkway as part of the new Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park. The New York State Bridge Authority owns and is charged with maintaining the bridge structure (as directed by the Governor and Legislature in July, 2010). The park is operated by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. In 2017, the walkway hosted 593,868 visitors. The park connects the Hudson Valley Rail Trail in Highland to the Dutchess Rail Trail, and forms part of the Empire State Trail. At a length of 6,768 feet (2,063 m), it is the world's second-longest pedestrian footbridge at 1.28 miles long. It held the title as the longest footbridge from its opening until fall 2016, when it was surpassed by the 7,974-foot long (2,430 m) Mile Into the Wild Walkway at 1.51 miles in length ****** WALKTOBERFEST The Walktoberfest Farmers and Makers Market brings a curated selection of the Hudson Valley’s finest producers - farms, distilleries, breweries, wineries, restaurants, artists, artisans, and more - to the Hudson Valley Rail Trail and west approach to Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park on Saturday, October 2 and Sunday, October 3 ***** #AutumnWeekend #🍁#HudsonValley #FallFoliage #🍂 trip Saturday October 2nd 2022 to #Poughkeepsie #DutchessCounty #NewYork Enjoy a #ScenicAfternoon crossing the #WalkwayOverTheHudson #bridge with free time in #WalkwayOverTheHudsonStateHistoricPark and #FrannyReeseStatePark #Walktoberfest Essential #FarmersMarket #DuBoisFarms #ApplePicking #🍎 #PumpkinPicking #🎃 #FarmStand with fresh #AppleCider and #doughnuts (3 miles from the Walkway Over The Hudson Bridge in #UlsterCounty #HighlandNY ) No car needed #MetroNorth #trains #🚉 leave from #GrandCentralStation #E42ndSt daily $38.50 for a round trip train ticket Train ride is 2 hours from NYC #🏙 No hotel needed return home the same day As of #September 28th 2022 the leaves are in the "Just Changing" phase ********************** Celebrations of the autumn season Happy Halloween - Blessed Samhain Festival - Día de los Muertos - Day of the Dead - All Souls Day - All Saints Day - Hallowmas - Thinning of the Veil Between the Worlds - Blessed Mabon - Autumnal Equinox - Autumn Fall Foliage - Peak Fall Leaf Colors - Trick-or-treating - Apple Picking - Fresh Apple Cider - Apple Cider doughnuts - Hot apple pie - Pumpkin Spice Latte coffee - Pumpkin Picking - Roasted Pumpkin seeds - Pumpkin Pie - Pumpkin Ice Cream - Corn Maze - Corn stalks - roasted corn - candy corn - Hay Rides - tractor rides - farm visits - Harvest Celebration - Pumpkin Spice brown sugar nutmeg cinnamon - Jack-o'-lantern pumpkins and turnip carving - Gaelic traditions - Ireland holiday customs - October 31st - Halloween decorations skeletons Witch's cats bats Dracula Vamp *** #WalkwayovertheHudson #Walktoberfest #HudsonValley #HVNY #NewYorkState #TasteTest #Review #Pumpkin #Pumpkins #PumpkinSpice #Halloween #Samhain #Autumn #Fall #Mabon #Thanksgiving #NYLovesFall #PoughkeepsieNY *** Apple iPhone 13Pro Max smartphone video 4K video *** #HighlandNewYork State #USA United States of America country, North America continent October 9th 2022
